Indu KN, Lakshminarayana G, et al.

Indian Journal of Nephrology 2012; 22(4):275-279.

Aims
To compare the safety of early versus late removal of prophylactic ureteric stents in recipients of live related donor allografts.

Interventions
Early (day 7) versus late (day 28) removal of ureteric stents.

Participants
100 patients undergoing living donor renal transplantation.

Outcomes
Urological complications within the first 6 months after surgery.

Follow-up
6 months

CET Conclusions
In this small, well designed study recipients of living related kidneys removed laparoscopically had a lower rate of urinary tract infection when the stent was removed at 7 days compared to removal at 28 days. There was no difference in the incidence of urological leaks or of ureteric obstruction.
