Prophylactic effect of mycophenolate mofetil on early outcomes of living donor kidney transplantation.
Samadzadeh B, Alemi M, et al.Iranian Journal of Kidney Diseases, 6(1): 63-68, 2012.
Aims
To evaluate the impact of preoperative mycophenolate mofetil on the outcomes of living donor kidney transplantations.
Interventions
Mycophenolate mofetil 1000mg versus placebo twice daily for 5 days before transplantation. All patients were given prednisolone, mycophenolate mofetil and cyclosporine after transplantation.
Participants
99 patients receiving their first living donor kidney transplantation.
Outcomes
Serum creatinine level, delayed graft function and acute rejection.
Follow-up
1 month
CET Conclusions
In this small but well conducted randomised double blind controlled trial, patients who were pre-treated with mycophenolate mofetil had less slow graft function and less acute rejection than the control group. This study might well justify a much larger trial.
